Drift State

Loosely inspired by the Skookumchuck Narrows on BC's Sunshine Coast, where twice a day as the tide changes, seawater flows through an incredibly tight pinch of land. It creates whirlpools and a standing wave where extreme sports enthusiasts can play. It's a meeting point, a confluence, a culmination of pressure, force and beauty.

And just like in nature, this wall sculpture balances the push and pull. Tension through the burning of the piece. Flowing curves where water would break. And darkness allowing beauty to exist in the quiet.

Preserving the live edge within this piece was paramount, as it was a huge feature already and adds so much complexity and depth, with both shape and texture. It also adds this element of rugged, rawness. Something that truly conveys that this piece came from the earth and will remain an ode to the natural world.

On the back is the signature mark, a brass coin emblem.

Finished with a plant-based and non-toxic hard wax oil.
